Carrigan's new skill

I am very behind on doing Gavin's 2 year and Carrigan's 9 month post. In the mean time I thought I would show off Carrigan's new skill. She can get to the standing position without needing an object to pull up on! She has been able to let go and stand on her own for a while now. The first time she stood up on her own was about 2 weeks ago. Levi was getting ready for work and Carrigan was sitting in front of him watching him put on his belt. All of the sudden we noticed she was standing! She now likes to stand in the middle of the floor and go up and down, up and down. It is so cute!

She will also stand and take one step forward, then fall. She cruises on furniture and walks behind toys easily. She will be walking in no time at all!!

My baby girl amazes me!

More 2nd Birthday Fun!

Saturday we met Nana, Aunt Alicia and Cousin Madi at Larry's Pizza (YUM!) for lunch then headed to the Wonder Place. I am so glad we found this place because it was a perfect way to celebrate! See the 3 trucks? Every time a particular little boy would come near Gavin, he would protect his trucks. The other little boy never showed any interest in Gavin's toys, but by golly they were HIS toys!
Well, tonight before bed, Madi was wanting Gavin to keep his distance from her toys she had lined up on the bed. Gavin got upset and started throwing all HIS toys in Carrigan's crib. After a failed attempt at stealing one of Madi's necklaces, Gavin picked up a toy, ran out of the room and shouted a word we had never heard fall from his lips, "MINE!!!!" A woman's comment said it best, "Contained and Content. Can't get better than that!" One advantage to being a small 2 year old is he fits in all the baby toys Carrigan gets in, so no jealously! Gavin having fun in the big water table. Madi said being a Vet will be fun, but she'll spend most her time being a tooth doctor. A little dress up! Gavin LOVED grocery shopping! Carrigan had a great time as well! We have adored every last minute of the past 2 years with you, Bubbas!!

2nd Birthday!

This year as I was planning Gavin's 2nd birthday party I started remembering how things went last year. The poor boy was sick, teething and overwhelmed by all the people. Gavin is still very shy, so I came to the conclusion that a party would only keep me happy, not the birthday boy. This year I didn't send out a single invitation or make one phone call. Gavin spent his birthday with the people he loves the most, his family!

On Friday we had cake, dinner and opened presents. It was a good thing I decided against a party, because he was NOT in the mood to be the center of attention!

Last year Gavin burned his finger on the candle as we sang Happy Birthday. To make up for it, Levi and I took Gavin to pick out a cake all for himself. He very enthusiastically picked out a Sponge bob cake. (It melted, shifted and became a mess on the way home) I don't know if it was the song, fire or cake that did it, but something freaked him out! Check out his face! We also let him choose the main birthday cake. He chose Cars. As a matter of fact he also chose decorations, which explains why everything is mismatched! (Just for the record, before Gavin was born I swore I would never let my child watch Sponge bob! BUT there are times when a little boy needs to be quiet so his baby sister can get some rest and I can't help it if Sponge bob does the trick! -- Gavin has never watched "Cars" either, but his favorite shoes are "Cars" so it was an easy pick.)Then it was time for presents! Carrigan very much enjoyed helping! If I would let Gavin play in the sink, he would be there every day, all day. When looking for presents, I ran across this water table that runs on batteries. The pump circulates water through the faucet. It is perfect! Many hours will be spent playing in this water table. Thank you Nana for getting it for Gavin! The next morning it was the funniest thing to watch Gavin's face as he saw that all his presents were still here! He ran to the back door and looked out to make sure his water table was there. He remembered a bug that had gotten stuck the night before and yelled, "Yuck! A bug in there!" I don't see what is so Terrible about the Two's just yet!! :)

Baby Float and High Chair Recall

We were at Walmart tonight and noticed a sign that said the baby float we had bought for Carrigan last month had been recalled. There are quite a few floaties that made the list. Check it out and make sure your babies are safe!!!

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09261.html

I searched through product recalls after finding out about the baby float. I found out Gavin's high chair has been recalled due to a screw that can come loose and cause the child to fall and produces a choking hazard.

Check recalls often! Or on sites like Toys R Us, they will e-mail you product recalls. I signed up!!

Say CHEESE!

Every time Gavin sees the camera he yells "CHEESE" and produces the most fake smile you've ever seen!

Jammies

Carrigan had to show off her new jam jams before going nigh-nights.
She has started saying Momma! I smile every time she says it!

Run! It's Fireworks!!

Just for memories sake, I want to jot down the past 3 years of our family's experience with fireworks.

July 4, 2007 - Early that day Levi asked me where his fish was. I, of course. said in the fish bowl. Where else? I had previous fish that jumped out of the bowl so all day I was waiting to find this slimy dead goldfish in the sink or on the floor.

That evening Levi, my 9 month pregnant self, mom, sister and niece all walked from our house to the Harding University stadium where they have games for kids and fireworks afterwards. Madi played the games provided and Levi and I sat in the bleachers waiting for dark. Once the fireworks started, Gavin jumped and kicked around at the loud popping of fireworks. My mom and I both hoped that the long walk to and from the stadium would throw me into labor. Nope! He patiently waited until his due date, 20 days later. The next day I found the fish. He had squeezed into a shell, got stuck and died. I had named the fish Dumb-bell when Levi first brought him home. The name suited him, don't you think?

July 4, 2008 - The 5 of us, this time with Gavin, an adorable 11 month old, and I, 5 months pregnant with sweet Carrigan, went to the Harding fireworks. Madi once again played games and Gavin walked around with Nana and played in the bleachers. No more than 60 seconds before the fireworks began, Gavin fell asleep. He woke up on the walk back to the car. Carrigan slept through the noise as well.

July 4, 2009 - Instead of taking our 23 month old and 8 month old to a crowd of people waiting for dark, we decided to go just past the stadium to the Harding Academy playground. A few other families had the same idea. Gavin walked around... and walked around... didn't play, just walked. Carrigan was ready for bed the moment we arrived so we walked her around as well. We thought we had a great idea. Little did we know, the fireworks were being set off from just beyond the playground. All of the sudden, behind Gavin came this LOUD pop and the sky lit up. I ran to pick him up, but it was too late. He was petrified!!!! I didn't know fireworks could be so loud. It sounded like we were under attack. No Joke! We were so close that you had to strain your neck just to see it all. For older kids and adults it was awesome! BUT for a baby and toddler it was terrifying! Actually Carrigan didn't seem all too bothered except the poor baby girl was desperate for sleep. After only 2-3 minutes it was clear we needed to get our babies out of there, and fast! We put our two screaming young ones in the car and watched the display from the rear view mirror as we drove home.

Hopefully we have more luck next year!
