17 months

Vann Alexander, you are the cutest thing on planet earth. Your favorite thing to say is, "Help please" (happy/hoppy) when you need help with anything big or small. You say daddy, bubba, kitty, doggy, bye bye, hi, bubble, uh oh, this, baby, up (upper) eat, ice, hair, teeth, eye, bath, kick, git, and many more... it is very cute when you are looking for someone then plant your feet, then peek dramatically around a corner calling, "Are you???" You weigh 23.5 lbs and are 32 inches. -- Your favorite thing to do is play outside and zoom on your blue car. You are so fast it impresses the neighbors and are getting so fast it's hard for mommy and daddy to keep up! You also LOVE balls! Kick!! You could kick a ball all day and sometimes do! I've heard everything from "that boy has a leg on him" to "he's going to pay for college with that kick" to "soccer star in the making!" You will sit in daddy's lap on the couch then point to the tv saying ball or kitty. This means change it to YouTube so you can watch Elmo, kitties or something about balls. Most of the time you get your way and the channel is changed! You might be a spoiled little thing! Another thing you always get is mommys sonic drinks. I let you have a taste of Coke thinking you'd dislike the taste and stop asking me for my cup, but that bakefired. You loved it! I'm trying to teach you to say sody pop. So far you have the pop down and it's adorable! You love to be rough with Gavin and daddy and are more sweet to mommy and Carrigan. We get the hugs and loves while the boys get bites and balls thrown at their heads. Haha... You get away with so much sweet boy just by being so little and cute! All he neighborhood girls love you. When the boys see you are outside they run and he,,, "Vann!!" And come to say hi. You are precious! I still have t cut your hair because the curls are just too sweet. I have trimmed your bands 5 times however and you e been mistaken for a girl more than once. ;)  We love you to the moon and back beautiful boy. My heart is so happy knowing you love us back. Muah!

8 Months!

Vann Alexander, if I had the power, I would keep you a baby forever and always! You are SO fun! I love taking you out of your car seat and caring you into a store. Typically, I have to carry you and push the cart too. You do love your mommy! You love all balls. Taking you to your first soccer practice was almost too much for you to handle. You wanted down to catch all the balls. I am worried about how the first game might go next week! You have been squealing very loudly the last few days. You have sounded like you say "hi" since you were little bitty. You hate baby food, but love table food. You've even tried cotton candy. Being the third child, has its perks! You also love drinking water from a big cup. You are pulling hair and hair less and less, but no go for the nose! You have two of th xutest teeth ever, won't sleep in your own bed and think opening and closing doors and cabinets is the most fun thing ever. Water is your FAVORITE. Whether it's in the bath, the dog bowl, swimming, or raining, you just want in it to splash your heart out! I am so in love with you, little boy. I am sad you are getting so big so fast. I love holding you SO much. Your smile and laugh are infectious! Being outside makes you so happy. You usually chase after Gavin's basketball as he plays. You do love Gavin so much! He plays with you so well. He takes you on the "bubba train" around the room to keep you happy while I get work done. Carrigan says, "it almost hurts he's so cute!" Her favorite is to cuddle you after you first wake yup. That's daddy's favorite too. Your eyes are blue and your hair is blonde. Your skin is the softest thing ever! I love taking walks with you as you drink from your sipping, my goodness how I wish you'd take a paci! You are cuddled in bed with me falling back asleep during your nap. You will crawl around the house when you wake up. You. Egan sitting up at 4 months and crawling, pulling up & cruising furniture all at 6 months. Mommy loves you!

Vann is 6 months!

Vann, I apologize for not blogging the way I did for your older brother and sister. It is not because you are the third child and therefore less special. You were handpicked by God to come at the exact right moment. I fawn over you like you were my first. My goodness how I love you.

6 month check up:
18 lbs - 75th percentile
28 inches 85th percentile

You are crawling, crawling, crawling! If you see plastic or paper on the floor, you make a mad dash to get to it before we can take it away! You go from room to room and Gavin & Carrigan think its too funny to watch! They do have to keep their rooms super clean as to keep objects out of your mouth, though. You love big sisters room the most because of her window that looks out onto the neighborhood and she has a keyboard you like to bang on. You like to crawl after a ball and of course after Teller and phoebe!

You don't like baby food yet, but will eat small amounts of yogurt and I've snuck you spaghetti sauce which you thought was quite yummy! You won't take a paci. You cry when mommy hands you over or leaves the room. Carrigan will say, "Oh, Vann, why do you just lov our mommy so much?!?" Sister is quite jealous that you not cuddle her the same way you will with me. :)
You love to BANG objects on surfaces. The louder, the better! You have your first tooth!

You won't sleep in your bed. You sleep In bed with me. During you long naps I just hang around next to you or fall asleep. I'm pretty sure this means you are rather spoiled, but that is the blessing a stay at home mother is allowed, - Whn I lay you down in your crib, you lift up your legs and slam the down. It makes a louder thud than my bed. You instantly know you are in your bed and pop up. You do the slam test in Mommy's bed, then relax and keep sleeping. Silly, smart baby. :)

You cry in your car seat and it gives mommy a heartache, I can't unbuckle you fast enough when we arrive. I can't stand to hear you cry for me.

You love Gavin to hold you and walk around the room. You bite on his shoulder. Pulling his hair while giving him luvins is also a fav. To keep you calm if I need to walk around without holding you, w play the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song.

Gavin started KINDERGARTEN!!!

I can't believe I am doing a post about Gavin going to Kindergarten! This blog is supposed to be about babies & toddlers, not Kindergarteners! Wow!!

I have been praying over this moment for years. When Gavin turned 3, I had major anxiety about it. It was so far away, yet waaayyy too close. I didn't want him out of my hands in a place where I am not allowed to pop in and check on him with hugs and encouraging words throughout the day. Boy that has been hard to prepare for!

The best thing we have ever done was put Gavin and Carrigan in Preschool. It was only 2 days a week, but prepared the whole family for elementary school. Yesterday, I told Levi it was the best money we've ever spent! It's calmed my nerves by 1000%!

The morning of the first day of Kindergarten, I woke up early, took my shower, then sat on the living room floor and sewed a button onto a pair of pants. Gavin woke up, started to turn into our room to cuddle with daddy, but decided to give me a smile and stay to talk. Gosh that was a blessing! When he crawls into our bed, he is glued to it! There were no big complaints about going to school. No tears. I think it helped that the morning before, we played on his new school playground and he knew two of his friends from preschool would be in his same school. We got dressed, packed the lunchbox, grabbed all his stuff, took pictures outside, where he decided to say, "Kindergarten!" instead of "cheese!" and we took a deep breath and drove away!

Levi took the entire day off to help with my nerves. (apparently I asked hm to in a moment of stress, however, I don't remember it! ha) As we pulled onto the road to the school, I reached back, grabbed Gavin's hand and prayed aloud. (he told me on the ride home the first week of school that he prayed at random times throughout the day. LOVE hearing that!) We parked and walked him up to the sidewalk and waited with all the other parents and students. Still, everyone was calm. Onto the gym to wait again. He waved at some children he knew and took in the large crowed room. We reached his classroom, put his things away, and watched his face turn red with nerves. He sat in his seat and whispered up to me, "I don't want to be here." I took deep breaths to keep calm. Still, no tears.
We walked out of the classroom & Levi didn't feel like he had gotten a proper hug, so he kept sticking his head through the doorway so Gavin could see him smiling and waving. Leaving him was the hardest part of my morning. Every time Levi walked halfway down the hallway, turned around and went back for another smile and wave, my breaths got deeper and deeper trying to hold back any tears. But none came. None came to Gavin either. We survived!

Levi, Carrigan and I spent the day trying to pass the time. A coffee shop. Walmart. Flea Market. Walmart again. (I mean, who willingly goes to Walmart twice in one day) Then on to pick up big brother.

He got in the car with a smile on his face! He had a great day! One of my biggest prayers was that he find his friend, Austin, on the playground, and sure enough he did! They had lots of fun together! As requested, we stopped for a grape slush at Sonic and had his FAVORITE Poppyseed Chicken for dinner. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow at 7:30 and woke up early the next morning to get in some video game time. After we were in the hallway in line with the other children, he wanted me to wait until he got to go into his classroom to leave. He had no problem with me not walking in. Carrigan and I spent the morning at the park & playing outside with neighborhood friends. I was okay, until at one point I saw Gavin's helmet sitting unused in the garage. All the sudden, I missed him so terribly!!

The best part about these first two days was this afternoon when picking him up. He climbed into the car, sat down and announced, "I Love Kindergarten!" I told him I am so excited for him and he says, "I am excited for myself that I get to go back tomorrow!" Prayers answered! Gosh, that makes things so much easier for us all!!!

Gavin: Person of the Week

Gavin, you were Person of the Week at school, and this is what you chose to write about :

Hi! I am Gavin Sawyer Carson-King. I was born on July 24, 2007. When I am at home, my favorite thing to do is play outside with my sister Carrigan and all our neighbor friends. We love to ride our bikes! I learned how to ride without my training wheels and even had a bicycle birthday party where 40 family and friends came and had bicycle races! I won! I also love to play all 3 of my Little Big Planet games. I have a lot of tractors, Lego's and fun places to hide during hide and go seek. One thing I do a lot is work out with my Daddy to be healthy and get big muscles. You have to eat fruit like grape and apples too. My Mommy and I like to go on dates and color pictures together. I just got really cool bunk beds and I sleep on them with all my stuffed animals. My favorite is Police Officer Brownie Bear. My cousin Madi comes over a lot and my Nana brings us sweet tea and M&M's. My best friends are Dayvion, Jekobe and Carson. I have a cat named Mindi Lou who is grey and white  She is one year old. I am really good and bowling and like to play the games after. My favorite thing my Mommy makes is Poppy seed chicken and my favorite restaurant is McAlister's. When I grow up, I want to be that person who puts all the cut down trees in his truck.

Carrigan: Person of the Week

Carrigan, you were person of the week at your preschool this week. You had to write in a journal about yourself and this is what you chose to write about:

My name is Carrigan Bailee Carson-King. I was born October 23, 2008. I live with my Mommy, Daddy, big brother Gavin, and our cat Mindi Lou. Kittens are my favorite thing in the world. I love to go to pet stores and the animal shelter to look at the kitties. When I grow up, I am going to marry my Daddy. For my 4th birthday, I had a Princess Tea Party and got a wedding dress, veil, tiara and high heels so I can pretend I am getting married. I wish everything in the world was pink and sparkly because it is my favorite color and all the dresses were rainbow and every single girl had a tiara with crystals and diamonds. My favorite thing to eat is ice cream, chocolate and candy. I could drink milk and chocolate milk all day. I like to go to Chick-fil-A and the park with my family. I love, love, love to draw pictures and play in the mud in my backyard. It is fun when my Mommy lets me put on makeup and nail polish. I like my friends DayDay, Jekobe, Kingston, Mr Tony & Mrs Jessica and I miss them because they lived across the street, but moved away. When I go to bed, I like to sleep with all my stuffed animals and I call them my babies. When I grow up, I want to be a cat lady. I love my Mommy, Daddy, Gavin, Nana, Aunt Alicia and Madi very much.

Babbling Bubba

I wanted to find a video of Gavin babbling... he did this for probably only 2 weeks or less. He was the kind of toddler that didn't speak unless he knew the word to say. The phase was short, but how I loved it!

Here I found him on top of Nana's table, with my concealer and blush on his face. It was so cute hearing his "excuse" for being up there! In the video he was 19 months old.

A Blog Post - Facebook Style

With Gavin turning 5, I thought it would be fun to go back and compile a list of my favorite Facebook posts from when the kids were just Toddlers/babies. I've wanted to do this for a while, but thought I'd be too bummed about not including comments because sometimes that's the best part. Well, if you click on the date above the status, you can see comments! Yay!

Of the 775 days Carrigan has been on this Earth, she has yet to sleep through the night. She may kill me.
Most little girls sleep with baby dolls & blankies. Mine sleeps with a big red rubber ball and stick pony. Love her.
Back door wide open, giggling kids running in and out, perfect weather & a clean house. Happy Saturday. :)
Gavin: "My armpit is gone, Mommy. I don't know where it is, but it's gone!"
When your 24 month old responds to "Carrigan, get in bed" with "I too busy" she may be too smart for her own good.
Me: "Wow Gavin, you are strong." Gavin: "Yes. Only boys are strong, but girls can wear bras." --- Where did I go wrong??

Gavin: "I will not chest bump NaNa tomorrow because we have to be careful in church."
An ENTIRE carton of eggs broken all over the kitchen floor & a bag of shredded cheese mixed in. Apparently Carrigan has learned how to open the fridge by herself.
The ringing of doorbells during nap time should be illegal.

I just e-mailed my husband about how good my new deodorant smells. Perhaps I need to get out of the house more.
C: Oh my gosh. G: Oh MY gosh C: It's MY gosh! --- G: I got booboo on my belly. C: It's MY booboo. G: No it's not! ---- ALL DAY LONG!
Me: "Do you want cereal or oatmeal?" Gavin: "Do I want french fries? Yes." -- I think he's feeling better this morning!

My children fall asleep so quickly in my arms. I wonder if that is how God intended them to sleep.
My 1 yr old daughter in a parking lot to a Semi truck driver, "Big truck hurt me! It's no no! Go Away!!!"
Just found out a 3 yr old is still considered a toddler. I am downright giddy. =)

We did it! Look at me! Chocolate cereal all gone. At store? -- Things said by my 20 month old today. My girl amazes me!
"You be nice today and X and Y and Z." --- Gavin getting right to the point while arguing with his sister.
"Mommy, you happy I big?" asks my soon to be 3 year old. So many big answeres attatched to such a small question.
My son is directing his sister in a photo shoot. "Let me see your eyes. Smile! Look at camera, Carrigan." -- Wonder where he gets it?!?! :)
Me: Gavin, tomorrow is your birthday! We are staying in a hotel Gavin: Yes! My Birthday. I watch Tv in my underwear!

My daughter chased down a little hispanic girl yelling, "It's Dora, Mommy! It's Dora!"
is waiting on my mother to arrive. Why? Because my daughter squeezed out an ENTIRE BOTTLE of mustard onto my living room carpet. -- Picture to come.
-- Gavin: "Carrigan, sweetheart, Gavin said No Ma'am." World's most polite 2 yr old or what?? :)

Me: "How are ya'll sliding on the floor like that?" Gavin: "Carrigan peepeed."
Both kids asleep by 7:30. I feel like I should be giving an awards speech.

You're only cool if you run out of gas with no phone mere hours after your husband leaves town.
5:45 Carrigan wakes up - will only eat pizza for breakfast - throws roll of toilet paper in toilet - now 7:00 a.m. & waiting for her next move.
Ah to find your son looking through your comforter, holding his bug catcher asking, "Where my worm go?"

Gavin: "A kiss, pretty girl?" (big hug and kiss) Carrigan: "Thank you, Bubba." My babies are the best. :)
taught her kids how to hunt for earthworms, blow wishing flowers, splash in mud puddles, & stop to listen to the wind blowing in the trees this afternoon. Happy day.
Carrigan has used the potty 5 times today! I am just so darn proud!
It's not the mounds of toys, sounds of laughter, or artwork on the fridge that prove I live with 2 toddlers. It's the tiny tennis shoes I found in the dishwasher.
"Mommy needs alone time" means nothing to my children.
is still laughing. I turned on the TV, shouted, "Hey Gavin, Dora is on." He ran towards the TV, lifted his hand in the air and yelled, "THANK YOU, GOD!!!"

watched her 13 month old open dresser drawers one by one to use as stairs to climb to the top. It's no wonder I am getting grey hair.
found that when you have kids you give up all rights to stand under the umbrella in the rain.
is making a list of Carrigan's words at 12 months. So far I've counted 20! Smart girl!!
is listening to Gavin complain about his "hairbutt." (haircut)

watched Carrigan open a 450 degree oven. Lord have mercy on me, as I'm still not sure if I'm having a heart attack or not.

is wondering why today of all days did Gavin learn to climb on the kitchen counters AND get into the hall closet. *sigh*

wonders what on earth possessed my sweet boy to turn into a biting, hitting, kicking, hair pulling toddler.

Goodnight Stars... Goodnight Air.... Goodnight Noises Everywhere...
just heard 2 dreaded words, "Momma Mean" =(

just unpacked groceries while 6 months pregnant and holding a baby on my hip in 102 degree weather. UGH!

Changing Eye Color

Gavin was born with blue eyes. Around his first birthday they turned into a grey-blue and were the exact color of my dad's. My sister & I, niece + one cousin are the only brown eyed family members on the Carson side for generations. When my sister was born, our great grandmother said she was the first family member she had ever met with brown eyes. I believe Levi has at least one blue eyed brother. It was no surprise that my brown eyed self and Levi's green eyed self had 2 blue eyed babies!
To my dismay, Gavin's eyes turned blue-green at some point last year. The 3rd picture down is from January 2010 and his eyes are still blue. They now have a bit of tan in the very middle, greenish blue with a dark blue ring around them. They are beautiful. My mom says they are the same eyes as her mom. ... I have to admit though that I do miss his baby blues!!

I can't wait until that face is filled with freckles. If he is anything like his parents, it won't be long!

He said WHAT?!?!

There are moments we parents are not proud of. I'm sure we could all list several. Several moments we hope our children never remember and we improve our skills for the next go around. Several moments that hopefully will not have people screaming, "Your Momma didn't raise you right!"

I had one of those moments today, a moment that caught me off guard. I was not prepared for this.

From the living room couch where my sweet 4 year old son sat playing his favorite video game, I hear these disturbing words spoken to Little Sister...

"Get out of the way, Biotch!!"

For those of you who do not know, (MOM), the "0" is intentional. It's a slang way of saying the horrible word you are thinking of.

Yes, he called his 3 year old sister a biotch.

In my shock, I took a loud gasp, (again, MOM) and Carriagn came running wondering what was the matter. I called Gavin to me and before he was halfway here, I started laughing. I knew I had to suck it up and keep going while it was still fresh. Come on Laura, be mature about this!!

It didn't work. I laughed. I kept laughing. His sweet innocent voice shouting that word was too much to take. I added the threat of taking back his game to the store if he said it again. --horrible, but through the laughter there was no other way to get him to take me seriously-- He of course laughed. I tried to explain my smile best I could so this word wouldn't become a regular thing and leave me mortified in a public place. "At least my kid isn't as bad as her kid!" - the other mothers will say.

Oy.

..............Ahhh.... But to you, dear person who I witnessed say this word in front of my child, watch your mouth. Your Momma didn't raise you right.

A special start to a special day.

It was the perfect way to start Christmas morning...

Carrigan was the last one asleep and I didn't want Gavin to have to sit around waiting for the Christmas fun to begin. After a few attempts from big brother to wake her up by asking if she wanted to open presents, I told him to crawl up, give her a kiss and whisper "Merry Christmas." She immediately opened her eyes, smiled at him and leaned up to give him a big hug. It was just the thing to start our wonderful day!!

So cute. So precious. So little!

I'm sure I posted this long ago, but GOSH they were beautiful babies!!! -- Even when they were fighting while waiting on the doctor. :)

*sorry for the low quality. I don't know why it uploaded that way and have no idea how to fix it!*

It's all in a name...

My name is Laura. It's a pretty simple name. I didn't mind it growing up, I only wished people would pronounce it correctly. "Hi, my name is LaH-ra." "Oh, nice to meet you, LOra." *groan* Still, people don't get it right, but I don't mind so much anymore. I've moved on to another part of my name.

Carson.

When Levi and I got married, he knew I wasn't going to take his name. He knew before we even got engaged. He never cared. He never asked me to. I wanted to keep Carson, and that was perfectly fine with him.

People seem to get our names right, then they go to mail a letter and get it all mixed up. (sometimes on purpose, which is what gets me. So WHAT if I kept Carson and my kid's names are hyphenated) Believe me, you aren't going to offend Levi. He is happy when I am happy. (meaning when it's wrong I usually gripe and gripe and... ) I love that I kept my maiden name and haven't regretted it for one second. I love that the kids have my name. I am proud of my name. I will never feel bad about my decision. (even if you want me to)

So... Here are our names and how cards should be addressed during the upcoming Christmas season and such...

Levi King
Laura Carson
Gavin Carson-King
Carrigan Carson-King

Levi & Laura Carson-King
Levi & Laura Carson-King and family
The Carson-King family

Thanks in advance.

Cat People. It's who we are.

I am a cat person. Always have been. My children are very much the same. They are afraid of most dogs, and the ones they aren't, they get tired of quickly. So... we have cats. We had Mindi Lou, but Carrigan was too rough with her, so we gave her away. We had Tinsel, who was WONDERFUL, but chose to be a stray. :( -- we still spot him, so we know he is okay and probably being fed by a neighbor . Carrigan was heartbroken when he stopped coming around. She asked for a "tiny, tiny little baby girl kitty" for her birthday. She was very particular and wanted the perfect one.
Just the other day, we were driving home from the store and I spotted two little tiny baby kitties. Both girls. We were all thrilled! (minus daddy, but eh... )
We brought them home and they are just adorable! I didn't want two cats, so we gave one away to our neighbor-friends, so we can visit any time! (Gavin was still heartbroken)

Tara is the sweetest little gray & white kitten. She is small, much smaller than her sister, calm, quiet, and very willing to let Carrigan push her around in a stroller. She is perfect!
*UPDATE* Tara has been renamed Mindi Lou Part 2. :)

The second night in the house we smelled "the smell." Levi and I searched and searched.... but just couldn't tell where it was coming from. Out of frustration, I asked Carrigan where it was coming from and she replied... "*sniff, sniff* It's in my nose!!!" Gosh, it was cute. :)

(unrelated cuteness about the 4 senses)
We ran out of the kid's toothpaste, so they had to brush with mine. Mint of course... Afterward, Carrigan wanted a drink of water. She took a sip, with her fresh mint mouth and surprisingly asked, "What kind of water IS this???" Oh, it was funny. :)
I love my sweet girl. ;)

Gavin is 4.

I expected to lose it when Gavin turned 4. I had little panic attacks when he turned 3. I don't mind him getting older as much as I don't want him in school and away from me 40 hours a week. If we can manage to live directly across from his school with a full view of the playground, I might be alright...

39 inches - 25th percent
30 lbs - 5th percent

Gavin is still the same kind hearted, gentle boy he has always been. He has definitely taken on the role as big brother and is proud of it. Carrigan is a princess, but he is no prince. He is a knight in shinning armor. He takes pride in being mine and Carrigan's protector and being able to save the day.

He has a very big heart. He likes to learn about Heaven so he will know what I will be doing if I die, or what he will be doing if he does. He tells me often that he will miss me so much if I did and it can lead to tears. He will come up to me, give me a hug and kiss and say, "I like you and I love you so much". It's my favorite thing he says to me. :) He also knows he is my true love. I love Disney movies so much more since he was the one to refer to me as his true love first. :) -- He also doesn't want to get married if he can't marry me because he doesn't want to live in a different house. I love that boy. ;)

Gavin has a very set way about him. He likes to play by the rules. It doesn't matter if it is a board game, pretend play, or running around with friends, he knows the rules and they should be followed. He is not a child who runs around aimlessly, loud and out of control. He can be rough, and tackle, but there has to be some sort of order. This even applies to building with Lego's. You won't catch him just stacking blocks. He is making something specific. He is also very competitive with friends his own age. He wants to be the strongest, best, fastest and of course, the winner.

Food used to be a major issue, but now you could call him just plain picky. He still won't eat most fruits and vegetables, but he is making progress with trying new things. He will now eat spaghetti, take a bite of a hamburger, (just plan meat, cheese & bun) and likes things such as pop tarts, popcorn, pretzels and peanuts. He still only wants ice water to drink, but will on occasion take a drink or two of super chocolaty chocolate milk. He does love tea, but I try to avoid sugar at all cost....

Chocolate is THE best thing in the world (avoiding sugar, but wanting him to have calories is like arrrggghhhh ..... ) He loves Superheros and never will pretend to be the bad guy. He loves weapons (another thing I try to avoid at all cost) and video games (again... ugh) and playing with older children.... that has a lot to do with the "playing by the rules" thing.

He l.0.v.e.s. his Nana. He spends all his time right beside her when we are with her. He likes to write the names of myself, sister, daddy, Nana, Aunt Alicia & Madi. He can write his name by his self and the letter 4. He is very interested in writing, so I imagine very soon he will be writing quite a few words by his self. He also has a very good memory. We have been caught off guard by what he can recall. I hope this benefits him in school!

We still plan to keep him back a year from Kindergarten. He just barely makes the cut off date, and being small and shy, it only makes sense to hold him back a year. This way he and Carrigan will be in back to back grades too. Next year we are going to put both kids in a 2 day a week preschool and they are already excited about it. We will see how I do next year!

Trick or Treat!

Ever since we got back from Halloween at church last year, Gavin has been asking when Trick or Treating would be again. He had SO much fun going down a huge inflatable slide with Nana and going on a hay ride. He as to have asked 100 times this year. I asked them what they wanted to dress up as a couple of months ago. They went back and forth between so many things! Batman, Spiderman, Bumble Bee, Wonderwoman, Dread Pirate Roberts.... I wanted them to "match" so it made it sort of tricky. Our neighbor gave us some movies to borrow, and in the stack were two versions of Peter Pan. They fell in love and we had our costumes!

I went to the store for yellow hair spray color (not sure what to call it) but they only had blue and pink. I picked up the pink since I didn't want to come home empty handed, and let her decided if she wanted to use it. She did. That explains the hair.... and the pink stained car seat. :)

Sunday night we went to the church function. They got to do everything they were expecting to do and got goodies in their buckets. Monday night we went to the library and did a couple of crafts and they got prizes. Then came the BIG fun. We went with Nana Trick or Treating through her neighborhood. Gavin was SO excited. Carrigan was a little more reserved, but followed right behind him. There were lots of trick or treaters out and it was the perfect neighborhood. It was rare that two houses in a row weren't handing out candy. Gavin made sure say "Trick or Treat!" and make eye contact with everyone to say "thank you". Their sweetness even got them a few hugs to go along with the treats! Their buckets so full to the top! Combined with the night before, they came home with a HUGE stash!

I let a friend borrow my camera so I don't have any other pictures besides camera phone pictures of them in their costumes. Levi took the one above with his phone, and I think their facial expressions are too funny! I will be taking "official" costume pictures this week.

I asked them both if they'd rather have a birthday party or go Trick or Treating and they both said, "CANDY!" ha!

Carrigan is 3!

When I was pregnant with Gavin (and even before) I wondered what in the world it was like to have your youngest child not be a baby anymore. How surreal that would feel... how strange it would be to have conversations with your "baby". Now here I am. My baby is 3. I still don't believe it. One is 3. One is 4. Next year I may have a breakdown. *sigh*

39 inches (same height as Gavin) 95%
33.6 lbs - 75%

Carrigan is obviously very bright for her age, which is good because she looks much older! We have been told on more than one occasion that she looks 5, and have thought she was older than Gavin. She has been able to carry on a full conversation for a long time. It was always funny to hear our 2 year old use worlds like "ridiculous" and "hilarious".

Carrigan also has a HUGE imagination. She will pretend any 2 objects are people and they will have a long journey and colorful conversation. She likes to pretend she is the Mommy & Gavin is the baby or she is Tinkerbell and he is Peter Pan. If she is Buzz Lightyear, then by golly, you'd better call her Buzz Lightyear! Her favorite pretend is to act as a baby or a cat. She does not break character for anything. We can be out all day and she will not use words, only "meow". She will crawl and point if she has to. If she REALLY has to speak she will say, "uh huh" and "uh uh".

She is still very dramatic. As I was putting her in the car the other day, she started fighting with Gavin because she wanted to be on his side of the car. I jokingly said, "Fine, then I'll put you in the trunk!". She gave me her signature "mad at you face" and said, "I'm not a grocery! I'm not milk or a shoe!" I think she knows how to get a laugh to avoid being in trouble. :)

She is a girl who loves being a girl and the youngest. She reminds us often that she is "very smaller" and "just a tiny baby". It is funny because when she tells you about when she was a baby, she starts with, "When I was a baby kitty I...". She obviously loves kittens more than most things in the world. :)

Carrigan loves her Girl Baby. It's her only toy she is protective of. She will sit through a whole movie and LOVES when we bring home a new one. She doesn't like being at other people's house for very long. She asks to come home often and will even try to escape multiple times. Her favorite restaurant is Chick-fil-A. She loves the color pink, daddy calling her his Princess, and lipstick, eye shadow, & nail polish. She is a fruit lover and stuffs herself full of bread if it is included in a meal. Chocolate milk & red grapes are her weakness. She still needs Mommy to be in her room to fall asleep.... but hopefully not forever!!

We love every bit of her and can't imagine our home without her. She adds so much life and joy to each day. She is truly full of life and energy! We love you Carrigan Bailee!

Children's Church

Most 3-4 years old's are starting their first day of preschool. Mine are taking it a bit slower and started their first day of Children's Church! I was going to wait until Carrigan turned 3, so they could go together, but I threw her in there last minute. :) (with her birthday 2 months away, what is the difference? :) )

I told Gavin he would be going to Sunday School earlier in the week and he was excited. It wasn't until the night before that he got nervous, but with the reward of a whole bag of M&M's all to himself, he was anxious to go!

That morning Carrigan decided she wanted to go in with him, so I told Levi if she was happy to let her go in, but if she started fussing even for a second, to pick her up and walk her into the sanctuary as quickly as he could. I didn't want anything making Gavin nervous.

Nana and I walked them into to the room. We found a superhero toy for Gavin and a Dora doll for Carrigan and they felt right at home! We walked out and neither one of them cried, or followed us to the door. I stayed, watching through the window for several minutes. They were going to see a puppet show in a much larger room next door with all the big kids, so I let them know I would come back and be in the hallway when they walked through.

I heard the man (Carrigan called them the Grandma and Grandpa) telling "Devin" (because Carrigan introduced him as her "Davin Boy") to take his sister's hand and walk her to door. The "Grandpa" held one hand and Gavin held the other as they led the line walking to the puppet show. Gavin noticed me in the hall, grinned and kept walking. Carrigan didn't notice me and was perfectly fine. It was SO strange to see them in an environment that I have not been in being led by people I do not know. I was so anxious to hear what they had to say about their morning. NEVER has it been that Mommy, Daddy, or Nana hasn't been by their side during any event. Sunday School was big deal for us!

Levi and I decided to leave church a little early to pick them up. Carrigan was being held by the "grandma" crying. She had just started, so I'm glad we got there early! They said Carrigan stayed close to Gavin's side, but he was more outgoing and interacting with the other children.

I am so proud of them and I can't believe I of all people didn't take any pictures!

The sweetness that is Carrigan

.........................................(if you notice her teeth, she was eating chocolate!)

I love the way Carrigan speaks. She tells stories with such feeling. She gets loud, quiets to a whisper, then laughs long and hard over the hilarity of her story.

She also has a cute way of saying her words. As she gets older it will go away, so I am appreciating it while it lasts!

She puts a hard ED at the end of words: "Kadence just laugh-ED at me."

"I just gooed dat." (I just did that)

"sm" is still hard for her: "I pell suting tinky" (I smell smething stinky)

As most toddlers do, she uses a "w" in place of "r" My favorite: "Dewick is getting mawied!"

When she and Gavin are having a quiet moment alone, I usually hear her sweet voice say, "I yove you, Davin." Precious. :)

"I love you, Daddy Boy."

When she talks about something in the past she says, "Last morning...."

My favorite little thing she says... She will tell you something, pause, then gives you a loud, drawn out "but...", however she pronounces is, "BOUT..." I love it!

She is good at complimenting others and herself, "I'm very good at jumping." "You're very good at brushing my teeth." :)

She over uses the word "should" and its so cute! "Tinsel should like me to hold him." I should want to go to Kai's house." "You should be very pretty in a dress."

Girls are more dramatic

Carrigan is a milk lover. I have said before that she could be on a juice and fruit diet and live happily ever after. Well, because of this, she has to wear pull ups at night... pull ups sometimes leak and Carrigan is hard to get back to sleep... SO

New Rule: Nothing but water after 6:00 p.m.

The second night with the new rule, she asked for her usual chocolate milk at bedtime. (chocolate on the side of the cup, not mixed it. Her rule. If she can't see it, it isn't there... Silly child) I told her no milk until breakfast and this was her loud, very dramatic reply:

Carrigan: "But if I don't get my chocolate milk my bones will break! My bones are starting to break! Holds arm up to my face and cries: See?? They are breaking! See?!? My arms are breaking! CHOCOLATE MILK!!"

Ah the child... I am used to it though. It was much better than the usual, "I don't like you. You are not my friend! The boys (daddy and Gavin) are my friends. I want you to live in a NEW house!

We heard her first, "I hate you!" Oh how I thought it would be many more years before that would happen! --Am I allowed to be happy I wasn't the parent it was directed to? (it was a bedtime of course)

She can be so delightful when she doesn't want to go to bed!! But I LOVE her anyway!
