12 month check-up

Gavin had his 12 month check up on Friday. He had to get shots, but we won't talk about those. :( As smart as people are these days, you'd think one of them would come up with ORAL vaccines!
His official 1 yr stats are:
Weight: 18 lbs 10 oz - 5th percentile
Height: 30 inches - 50% percentile

He had been to the doctor just a week before due to his eye infection and I had discussed Gavin's eating habits with his doctor again. She had suggested taking Gavin to a children's eating specialist depending on how his appointment with the Gastroenterologist went. After comparing his weight over the past few months this visit, she decided to go ahead and make an appointment with a food specialist. At 8 months Gavin weighed 18 lbs. At 12 months he weighs 18.10 lbs. It is fortunate that he has stayed the same height or we would be in the danger zone. She hopes we can come up with ways to get over Gavin's strong gag reflux and get him eating foods with chunks and different textures.
We have made very good progress with eating this month. His intake of pureed foods has doubled and I have gotten him to eat tiny pieces of bread, little freeze dried fruit snacks and yogurt bites. When he sees me getting out the yogurt bites he starts yelling NUM NUM!! (Yummy!)
We are to keep him on formula / PediaSure for the extra calories and nutrients. He still won't take a sippy cup because he has to be starving to take in fluids, which means he isn't getting the extra water he needs.
I also need to bring him in for a weight check in 2 months to make sure he isn't losing weight. I think we will be surprised with a positive weight gain simply because he has amazed me with how much fruit/veggies he is taking in without cutting down on formula.

I don't think that is that much off. I just went and looked up how much Sterling weighed at his one year check up and he was 21 lbs 15 oz...so 22. He was in the 40%tile. I guess maybe 4 pounds is a lot at this age but I didn't think it would make that much difference. Glad to see he's gettin bigger...good luck with the swallowing!
